SU Expects Smaller Crowd

Smaller crowds are expected for the Syracuse football game this Saturday against Illinois. This wavering attendance is not the case at many colleges throughout the nation.
“In other areas, it doesn’t matter really how the teams is doing. People still show up. Here it’s not that way. It very much is dependant on winning and who we’re playing,” Pat Campbell, the manager of the Carrier Dome, said.
The attendance is anticipated to come up well short of the 40,329 people that were at the home opener against Washington. This wavering attendance is not the case for basketball games where the Orange led the Big East in attendance despite missing the NCAA tournament.
People in central New York choose to go spend more time at other attractions in the area when the football team is not playing well, unlike in other college towns where there is nothing else to do on Saturday afternoons, Campbell said.
