How Things Came Together

It was pretty easy for me to decide on a story once the assignment was given. I walk past construction workers everyday on my way to classes and I always saw them working hard to make sure the building would be ready in time for the dedication ceremony. The construction of Newhouse III has been a huge story since groundbreaking day, but with deadline quickly approaching the stories have become quick updates that provide know knew information. I didn't want to do an update discussing for the "millionth" time how workers were running out of time. I wanted to put a positive spin and give the workers a voice, because working on the building lets them see the construction from an artistic perspective. I had to interview a few different people before I found someone who'd been part of construction for over 5 months. The more time the person had been on the site, the more willing he seemed to be interviewed. My natural sound was pretty simple to get. I got a clip of bricks being sanded down for a sidewalk which came out pretty well.

I thought you had a very different and interesting perspective on this story. When I think about Newhouse III I immediately think of how it's going to affect students and faculty, but I didn't really think about how the people actually putting the hard work and time into the building felt. I liked it a lot!
