First Time for Everything...
First time anchoring! What an experience. When I first got to the newsroom on Thursday, Noel had a few interesting stories that we were hoping to use for my phoner. I wanted to investigate the Hollywood Writer's strike, but the TRF professors that I wanted to interview were not available. A couple other stories fell through for the same reason, so I had to keep looking. Under Richard's suggestion I decided to follow a story about Bill Meyer adding more veterans to the honor roll at the War Memorial. It had just been added to syracuse.com, so I knew it was a fresh one, and it did have relevance to the community. It was actually funny because when I called I spoke directly with Bill Meyer, and when I told him how I found out about it he was very surprised. He didn't know the story was already on syracuse.com. Point proven: websites are interacting with the news more and more today. Now even Bill Meyer knows! Although the story was a little dry, I was happy with my writing for it. When it came time to get into the booth was when it got a little hectic. Both reporters didn't have carts, and I didn't know what I was doing. But as Professor Nicholson pointed out, I did stay calm under pressure and delivered as best I could. It was definitely a learning experience!
