The Campaign

The story I covered was The Campaign for Syracuse University which launched Friday. The University's goal is to raise one billion dollars for the endowment. The money will come from people in the community, alumni, and corporations. It will be put to new construction, grants for teachers, and the community. Some information that did not make the story I did for class was the little white signs on the sidewalks around campus are part of the campaign. For example, one by Bird Library reads, "In 2003, the S.U. Men's Basketball Team won the National Championship." They allow people on campus to learn about the rich history of the school. They are also designed to help attract prospective to students to the school by showing them all the accomplishments of the University. Also there will be many murals across campus depicting the campaign and all the different schools within the University. Some of the buildings being funded by the new endowment include the dormitory that will be built next to Dellplain, Newhouse III, and a new building for the law school. The plans for that law school building and the residence hall are on display at a Warehouse Exhibit that just opened on Thursday.
