Election day

WHEREFINAL.mp3

Election day is one of the most important days of a year, but 70% of the registered voters in Syracuse simply don't seem to care. According to election supervisors at the polling station in Civic Center downtown,
only 30% of the eligible voters in Onondaga County actually vote. Most of these people are between the ages of 40 to 60.

When I was at the polling station, the election supervisors told me they get paid 150 dollars a day to be there to assisst the voters with voting. But some of them feel kind of guilty because there were so few people and they were seriously bored. Also, one of the interesting things that didn't make it in my story was that of the four election supervisors at each polling table, two must be Democrats and two must be Republicans. They said such arrangement is to ensure the integrity of their supervising. Basically, it was a 2-2 pair up so that when one person goes to the restroom, the other can watch over the two from the other party and make sure that they are not doing something naughty. I thought it was really funny, and it's something you wouldn't know unless you get into direct contact with these people.
